It's Only Stress

I'm sure many of you have experienced headaches which you've attributed to stress. A hectic day at the office or screaming toddlers often get blamed for the pounding headaches many adults experience.

Yes, i's true, stress can and will cause muscles in your upper shoulders and neck to tighten up. Yes, this tension often leads to an unwanted headache. But does this stress and tension CAUSE the headache? NO! If it were so, then everyone who has a stressful life would get these headaches and they don't.

Tight muscles can precede these 'tension headaches' but only if there is already a problem (altered biomechanics) in the cervical spine. The tense muscles cause more irritation to the joint capsules which exacerbates the already present problem. This causes the irritation to the spinal nerves that exit between these joints. THIS is what causes the headaches.

Can chiropractic help? YES! The spine can be 'adjusted' which removes the joint irritation and corrects the improper spinal biomechanics. This relieves the irritation to the spinal nerves and therefore relieves the headache, or prevents a headache from occurring.
