Advertising in other publishers newsletters is a good way to get exposure for your website, but it must be done with some forethought. Buying up ads in newsletters can also be a great way to deplete your funds quickly.
The first thing that you want to do is determine who your target market is. Once you do that, you can visit a number of different ezine directories to find out which ones are publishing in your target market.
Once you have found some newsletters (locate at least 6 to 8 different publications), you will want to find out the following information:
All of these factors must be taken into account if you are determining if your ad is a good deal for you or not. See what other newsletters are charging to get the industry price.
You may also be able to get newsletter advertising by writing an article for the newsletter, with a link back to your site in the resource box. When you offer an article to be published, you can usually get free advertising as most publishers will be glad to use your article for free.
Check with the ezine directories to see if they accept articles. If they do, you may want to think about publishing an article first. It is also a great way to begin branding yourself as an expert.
Writing articles for newsletter
B, thanks for a good list of criteria for advertising decision!
I've had luck with writing articles for others' newsletters. Be sure to specify before you submit that the copyright remains with you, that you are giving a one-time permission to copy the article. (If you have an attorney, you might want to check out the exact language.) That way, you can submit the same article or series to other newsletters as well.
Another interesting topic is giving presentations to groups...another blog, perhaps!
Thanks again, B.
